Why do I love Documentary Photography?
Why do I love Documentary Photography? Many people do not understand documentary photography. They are used to studio photos, backdrops, posed images. Which, don’t get me wrong have a place and are beautiful and I understand that. But my love is the natural and relaxed. Real life.
My photography journey is still very new and there is a lot of learning to do especially about myself and my style. I am sure it takes many photographers many years to find what is right for them and it must constantly evolve.
Practice is important. Our boys are fab and are getting to used to the camera constantly being about. I love to capture my family too. It’s so important to have photos to treasure and to remember the special moments. This photo of my Nan is one such example, absorbed in her great-grandson making her laugh. Her beautiful face, a face that has always been in my life and I’m so blessed is in my children’s life too.
‘Photography is an art of observation. It has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see it.’ -Elliott Erwitt-
Children growing up. The tears, the tantrums, the funny moments and everyday living. Family. Friends. Capture it all to create the memories . A snapshot for your loved ones for the future. Documentary photography is unposed, untidied, unapologetic storytelling.
So I’m snapping away, striving to learn and be better. Oh and loving my journey so far!!
