Children’s Mental Health Week 2021
From 1-7 February 2021 it is Children’s Mental Health Week here in the UK. This year’s theme is Express Yourself.
Expressing yourself is about finding ways to share feelings, thoughts, or ideas, through creativity. This could be through art, music, writing and poetry, dance and drama, photography and film, and doing activities that make you feel good.
As someone who suffers with my mental health I know how important it is.
What our children have experienced in the last year is tough. Disrupted routines, homeschooling and missing loved ones and friends. For us adults this is hard, so imagine how it feels for them. My own children have shown this through their emotions and I know a lot of children are feeling the same way.
Education is important but now, after so much time, the focus has to be on their mental health. Not enough is being done so let’s encourage them to express how they are feeling.
Talk to them and tell them it’s ok to feel how they are feeling right now.

So take time this week (and every week) to talk, create, get fresh air and check in with loved ones. We have to make mental health a priority for us all.
