My Bucket List- Birth Photography
Last year I wrote a bucket list of photography projects I would like to do. Some were things to aim towards. Some were new things to try and photographing a birth was top of my list!
When I mentioned this to people most thought it was odd. It is something I really wanted to experience and I had seen some incredible birth images online. Why would you not want to capture your new baby coming into the world?!
I had been in contact with lots of local midwives and doulas. Then I happened to message Marley, who amazingly said I could photograph her birth. With four sons already, her last baby on the way and being a midwife herself she was happy for me to document this for her.
We met and chatted and then the wait was on. Marley went into hospital to be induced on the Wednesday and I was on standby. By 2.30pm I was on my way to St Peter’s Hospital as she knew baby was on the way.
Marley was incredible. As was her partner, Tyrone and her mum. Marley’s labour was intense and at the end they thought she was going to have go to theatre to get the baby out (no photos allowed then!) But NO baby came naturally and I was there with my camera to capture it all!
I loved it. It was the most incredible experience to see a baby born, in the hospital where my own children were born too. I was so emotional that evening and but on such a high that I had actually done it!
Birth photography is definitely something I would like to do more of- just AMAZING!
Now, whats next on the list……….
